A lot of hikers have asked me for a definition of ultralight. Knowing there is a category for super ultralight has taken the pressure off. My definition:
- Backpack : 3# or less
- Sleeping Bag: 2# or less
- Tent: 3# or less
8 pounds or less seems fair, though I am over by about 6 ounces, due to the fact I have a two person tent. Of course, if I’m sharing the tent/sharing the load, I’m well under.
If affordable, titanium can cut weight quickly.
Yes the material seems “cheap” due to the lightweight. I use my tent an average of 60-70 days a year and I’ve had it 4 years…no complaints. If it was still being sold I’d try to sell you on it.
