GoLite®, leader in lightweight and ultralight gear, has announced more than 50% of its Spring 2010 collection will be green. Last year its products were 20% environmentally friendly, by 2015 the goal is 100%.
Founded in 1998, with its market responsive product line, geared to the lightweight and ultralight market they again are pioneering a trend. Not satisfied with a product here or there, or simply a single line being green; all the 2010 main pack fabrics and all its sleeping bag collections will be made with Tier 1 recycled nylons and polyesters.
They have embraced the challenge. The figures have increased dramatically since 2008:
- 2008 3% products made from EPMs
- 2009 20% products from EPMs
- 2010 50% products made from EPMs
The goal is to use 100% EPMs (environmentally preferred materials), materials that are recycled, recyclable, organic, certified, and/or renewable by 2015.
But then what else would you expect from a company that started out as an innovator? Their response to the needs of climbers, baby boomers, women and the young has led them to expand into 23 countries in eleven short years. It’s not just about lightening your load; it’s the freedom and enjoyment of your sport with the equipment assisting you, not dominating you.
GoLite products are worthy of your consideration. This is an unpaid, unsolicited article. You may or may not find GoLite in any of the banners advertised on this site. The link I gave you is for GoLite themselves, but except for closeouts they will refer you to a retailer near you. My only desire is for you to have this information before you when making a buying decision.

Personal safety packs must be worn by every child. Every child, when must wear a fanny pack containing:
- Loud emergency whistle
- Light sticks or flashlight with spare batteries
- Space blanket (about the size of a cigarette pack), aside from offering some weather protection it is highly visible
- Water, at least a four ounce bottle
- Laminated instructions, (for prereaders use pictures) with “if you are lost instructions”
-
- Do not move from where you are, unless you are in danger
- Use whistle. Realize you may have moved too far for your group for them to immediately hear you. Toot your whistle every 10-15 minutes.
- Do not panic. As searchers expand their search, you will be found.
- Sleep before you are tired. You do not want to be so tired you do not hear searchers. Use space blanket.
- A picture of the family
Go over instructions before you leave home and remind child of the rules once on the trail, with them giving you the answers.
